Judy Byarlay, DVM
Born and raised in central Kansas, Dr. Byarlay’s passion for animals started at a young age. Growing up Judy was always surrounded with animals from family pets to farm animals at 4H activities.
After graduating from high school she went on to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas earning her bachelors degree in Physical Education and a minor in science. Upon her Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Judy became a licensed Athletic Trainer until 1999 when she decided to attend the University of Tennessee Veterinary College.
Dr. Byarlay worked in Greenville, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky for a few years before settling in the Reno area in 2006. Dr. Byarlay spent most of those years practicing in the field of shelter medicine and continues to spend time with shelter pets to this day.
Along with her in-home practice, Dr. Byarlay currently teaches at the TMCC Veterinary Technician program, does relief work at a veterinary clinic, and works with non-profit Palomino Valley Pet Rescue organization.
Dr. Byarlay still surrounds herself with her own pets: Dogs – Girl Friday and Chester; Cats – Reba, Walter, and Lucky.
Alissa Lenzora, LVT
Alissa is one of our compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technicians focused on providing the best animal care. She’s a very gentle animal care professional who advocates strongly for all animals and their well-being. She brings a happy energy along with strong will to love and help all creatures.
Being a Native Nevadan, born and raised right here in Reno/Sparks area, she has loved and cared for animals all her life! Her grandmother was her inspiration. Alissa spent most of her childhood summers visiting her grandmother on her ranch. Her grandmother and she would take care of any animal they found, tame or wild. Alissa had a pet goat at the ranch as a small child and loved it when the chicks were born each year!
Starting her work with animals as a volunteer, it led her to the beginning of her animal career at 18 years old. She has worked for both of our local animal shelters where she first experienced working with Dr. Judy. Graduating from the Veterinary Technician Program in the Spring of 2012, Alissa passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam that following summer.
Other than shelter medicine and in-home work with Dr. Judy, Alissa has experience working in a full-service Veterinary Clinic, teaching part-time laboratory class for first year Vet Tech students, doing relief work at a veterinary clinic with Dr. Judy, and currently works with non-profit Palomino Valley Pet Rescue organization.
Together with her husband and two little girls, they have 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bearded dragon, 2 horses, 5 chickens and 3 ducks!
