Judy Byarlay, DVM

Born and raised in central Kansas, Dr. Byarlay’s passion for animals started at a young age. Growing up Judy was always surrounded with animals from family pets to farm animals at 4H activities.

After graduating from high school she went on to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas earning her bachelors degree in Physical Education and a minor in science. Upon her Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Judy became a licensed Athletic Trainer until 1999 when she decided to attend the University of Tennessee Veterinary College.

Dr. Byarlay worked in Greenville, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky for a few years before settling in the Reno area in 2006. Dr. Byarlay spent most of those years practicing in the field of shelter medicine and continues to spend time with shelter pets to this day.

Along with her in-home practice, Dr. Byarlay currently teaches at the TMCC Veterinary Technician program, does relief work at a veterinary clinic, and works with non-profit Palomino Valley Pet Rescue organization.

Dr. Byarlay still surrounds herself with her own pets: Dogs – Girl Friday and Chester; Cats – Reba, Walter, and Lucky.

Dr. Sarah Mahler

Dr. Sarah Mahler was born and raised in California. After completing her Bachelor’s in Zoology at Humboldt State University, she moved to Pullman, Washington, where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from WSU. Dr Mahler practiced in Washington, New Mexico, then moved to Reno with her husband and two daughters. Preventative medicine is especially important to Dr Mahler as she believes this is key to our pets living long and happy lives. She shares her home with two Nevada Humane Society rescue cats and three rescue guinea pigs.

Dr Mahler keeps busy at home and enjoys knitting, pilates, yoga, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Henry Bell, Practice Manager

Henry joined our team as Practice Manager in 2013. New to the veterinary field but knowledgeable in business management; he tackles the day-to-day operations of the business and is vital to keeping our busy office running smoothly.  “Our Henry” takes on multiple responsibilities which include the implementation and operation of practice management applications and client services, as well as scheduling appointments, marketing development, and assisting Dr. Byarlay.

Just as versatile in business as he is in life… he makes a delicious pecan pie, is currently working on his ‘66 International pickup truck, and is the fixer of all things broken. Throughout his life Henry has believed in the importance of having a companion by his side whether it is of the furry or feathered variety of species.
